World Press Photo Of The Year 2003

iraq award photo 2003

A hooded Iraqi 'war' prisoner holds and comforts his 4-year old son as both sit behind razor wires in an illegal U.S. concentration camp.  The crying and terrified child had been captured along with his dad.    The little boy had lost his sandals, seen a few feet away.

Photographer Jean-Marc Bouju won the World Press Photo of the Year on February 13, 2004, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.  The shot was reportedly selected from more than 63,000 images submitted by 4,176 photographers from 124 countries.

Bouju, from France, already won several prizes for his work in Africa in 1995 and 1999.
