The Free Gaza flotilla was savagely attacked by Israeli commandos last May 31. The ship was in international waters on her way to deliver food and other vital supplies to the dispossessed people of Gaza struggling to survive under Israel's cruel and illegal siege.
Herded in what is recognized as an open air concentration camp, the heroic Gazans are also prevented from rebuilding the homes, schools, shops, roads, hospitals and electricity grids destroyed by Israel during the equally illegal 2008-2009 horrendous bombing.
The unarmed passengers were a mix of humanitarian aid workers, journalists, and peace activists from 40 nations. Twenty or more of them were murdered in cold blood by the Israeli forces, several were assassinated. A 19-year-old was shot once in the stomach and four times in the head, all at close range. Scores were severely wounded. Some were beaten. The remaining others were held hostage, jailed and/or deported, including the many children on board with their family.
An international outcry ensued. As usual, the Obama administration shielded Tel Aviv from the legitimate consequences such state terrorism entails. It was difficult to believe that Washington had not pre-approved the assault.
Dulles NOW activists have taken a steady stance in the defense of Palestinian rights for years, a just cause increasingly popular the world over. Repulsed by yet another calculated bloody rampage against peaceful civilians, the Dulles NOW Executive Committee has unanimously voted to join the global Boycott Divestment
and Sanctions Campaign (BDS) in protest, calling for the end of Israel's vicious and illegal occupation of Palestinian land.
